This flapjack recipe is a delicious twist on a traditionally loved combination of flavours. Flapjacks are always a great choice for a filling and sweet snack, so try this version and it will soon become a family favourite. It is also a great twist on a traditional sit down desert, this is perfect to cut up and take on picnics. You could also wrap it in cellophane and give it around for presents.
Ingredients:
- 3 apples
- 3 tbsp. golden syrup
- 2 tbsp. black treacle
- 2 tbsp. full cream milk
- 150g of toffee’s, hopefully homemade, or buy some from a nice shop
- 1 lemon
- 200g butter
- 50g brown sugar
- 400g rolled oats
Method:
Place the apples in a saucepan with the lemon juice from the lemon and bring it to the boil. It will look as though there isn’t enough, but you don’t want more liquid as this will make the apples soggy.
Simmer them for 7 minutes or so, until cooked. Mash the apples into a puree, but don’t use a blender. They will become soggy if you do, so use a fork and mash them gently.
Heat the butter, syrup, treacle, and sugar together into a saucepan.
Only heat until just melted, no further. Stir in the rolled oats until all of the oats are covered in the mixture.
You now have your mixture.
Heat the oven to 190C.
Grease your baking tin with butter, and a tiny bit of flour.
Add in half of the mixture and press down.
Add the apple mixture and spread that evenly.
Add in the rest of the mixture, so you now have an apple flapjack sandwich.
Pop this into the oven and cook for about 25 minutes, take it out of the oven. Leave it to cool. Once completely cooled, it is time for your toffee mixture.
Put the toffee in a pan with the milk. Heat until completely smooth. You will have a thick toffee sauce mixture.
Take the flapjacks out of the tin and cut into squares.
Put onto a cooling rack. Drizzle the sauce over the flapjacks and leave to cool. The heat from the flapjacks should set the sauce, making it thick and yummy to eat.
These ideally need to be chilled in the fridge before consumption, to make them even more chewy and gooey. Try a chocolate sauce, or substitute the apple for banana.

Fantastic. I’ve been on a big noodle high lately, I have absolutely no idea why – I just got a crazy craving for noodles!! Is that even possible? I’ve already tried nearly half of all the noodle recipe and looking for more still! Crazy huh. I should probably stop soon, I dont think eating noodles every day is a little unhealthy perhaps…
