A flapjack is sweet bar made from a beautiful combination of oats, butter, brown sugar or golden syrup, fruits raisins and nuts. Flapjacks are very popular in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
A flapjack is baked in an oven tin or cooked in gas flame, and cut into rectangles. It can be easily made in no time. It’s nutritionally very good and equally delicious. Its can nibbled while passing a leisure time or in relaxed time.
The oats are known to be a very good curing agent for the constipation and other bowl related disorders. This fruit and nut flapjack recipe is good for the children, specially when they have constipation and can be ideal for their lunch box. Every body relishes these tempting recipes with great pleasure.
- 2 cups of oat
- 1 brown sugar
- 1 cup almonds
- 1 cup peanuts
- ½ cashew nuts
- ½ cup dried pineapples
- ½ cup dried apricots
- 1 cup raisins
- 1-3 pods of cardamom
- 100 g of butter
- 1 cup of water
Cooking time: 10 minutes.
First, slightly roast the oats in a dry pan for 2- 3 minutes. Also roast the nuts separately. Keep every thing aside. Take a medium sized sauce pan. Add water and sugar or honey can also be substitute the sugar. Bring it to boil till thick sticky syrup is prepared.
Heat the butter in the pan in low flame. Pour all the roasted oat flakes and nuts. Stir for a minute. Now at this stage add the dried fruits like apricots, pineapples or any other mixed fruits of our choice. Mix them thoroughly .Now slowly, add the sugar syrup or honey into that mixture. Immediately all the ingredients will aggregate together and try to stick to the container and spatula. Spread all the contents in to a flat plate and give square cuts with a knife. Cool it and enjoy the nice crispy crunchy fruit and nut flapjacks.
Alternatively, we can make this recipe as oven baked. What we do is, instead of cooking into a pan. We first mix oats, all kind of nuts, fruits together. And then add the melted butter into it. At this stage we pour the sugar syrup or honey. Mix them thoroughly so that everything mixed well and coated with the syrup and butter equally.
Preheat the oven at 200 ⁰ C. Put mixture into a greasy baking tray. Keep it in the oven for 10 minutes. Nice crispy flapjack bars will be ready to eat.
