This is a fun and delicious recipe that you and your kid can cook together. You can also invent one of your own, since flapjacks are suitable to change ingredients and still get a great flapjack.
These bars are healthy and nutritious, ideal as a snack in between meals or for lunchboxes.
Here goes a simple flapjack recipe that you can make at home. Invite your children and start right now!
Ingredients:
- 35 gr. chopped dried apple
- 130 gr. porridge oats
- 35 gr. Chopped dried apricots
- 25 gr. Dried cranberries
- 25 gr. Pumpkin seeds
- 2 table spoon sunflower seeds
- 25 gr. Desiccated coconut
- 80 gr. butter
- 80 gr. Brown sugar
- 60 gr. Golden syrup
- ½ table spoon salt
Preparation:
Melt together the butter, sugar, golden syrup and the salt in a saucepan, softly heated. In a separate bowl mix al the dry elements together and stir in the syrup and butter mixture.
Line and grease a square baking tin. Spoon the mixture into it and press down to level the surface. It Bake in a pre-heated to 180° oven, for 18 to 20 minutes.
While still warm cut it into bars and store them in the fridge. This recipe is for 10 bars.
Keep in mind, that you can vary the dry ingredients as much as want. Or also incorporate new ones to the mixture. Always keep the proportions between dry and wet ingredients.
Here are some variants:
Chocolate flapjacks
A must that everybody loves.
Ingredients:
- 80 gr. butter
- 80 gr. Brown sugar
- 60 gr. Golden syrup
- ½ table spoon salt
- 100 gr. Dark chocolate
- 250 gr. Oats
Preparation:
Same way that the base recipe. Save the chocolate for when the bars are cooked and golden.
Melt the dark chocolate and spread over the cooled flapjack. Cool it in the fridge for an hour.
Toffee Flapjack
Ok, this is not that healthy but a pleasure from time to time is well deserved. This flapjack can be delicious as a desert too!
Ingredients:
- 80 gr. butter
- 80 gr. Brown sugar
- 60 gr. Golden syrup
- ½ table spoon salt
- 250 gr. Oats
- Toffee sauce, as desired.
Preparation:
Use the basic recipe for a start. Once you have mixed all the dry ingredients with the butter and syrup mixture, add enough toffee sauce until all oats are covered.
Proceed to cook the mixture. Take the tray out of the oven, and give the mixture a minute before cutting the bars. Leave for up to 6 hours before serving them.
